Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group is proud to announce that two of its Alabama-based mediators, Timothy P. "Tim" Donahue Sr. and A. Philip Reich, have been inducted into the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN). This honor recognizes their outstanding contributions to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and their unwavering commitment to professionalism and impartiality.
Mr. Donahue became a full-time neutral at Upchurch Watson White & Max in early 2024 after more than two decades as the sole shareholder of Donahue & Associates LLC in Birmingham. His legal practice specialized in governmental and municipality law, employment law, construction, product liability, and workers’ compensation. Mr. Donahue’s extensive legal experience and dedication to fostering resolutions in complex disputes have earned him this national distinction.
Mr. Reich, a retired circuit Judge, brings a wealth of judicial and legal expertise to the mediation field. After practicing law for 15 years with a focus on litigation, he was elected Circuit Judge in Lawrence County, Ala., in 1988 and served as Presiding Circuit Judge for over 20 years. Mr. Reich presided over more than 25,000 cases, including over 500 jury trials, and held leadership roles including president of the Alabama Circuit Judges Association. His experience and commitment to justice make him a valuable mediator in complex disputes.
The National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals is an invitation-only professional association recognizing the top mediators and arbitrators in the United States. Executive Director Darren Lee says, “In total, we reviewed peer nominations and unsolicited applications for over 600 neutrals since the summer, which we narrowed down to just over 200 that appear to meet NADN's practice requirements. A majority of these were nominated or seconded by current members and provided application materials before our Nov. 15 deadline. Following due-diligence client interviews completed by my team, we consulted with our local state committee members and arrived at the names,” all of whom are found to meet the NADN's strict ADR practice benchmarks.
This recognition reflects Mr. Donahue and Mr. Reich’s dedication and expertise, underscoring the important role they play in resolving disputes effectively and efficiently.
