DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 20, 2013) --
Michael S. Orfinger, a principal of Florida- and Alabama-based Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group, will present a
Volusia County Bar Association-sponsored Continuing Legal Education program on Oct. 4, 2013 at the Daytona Beach International Airport.
Michael S. Orfinger
Mr. Orfinger's popular presentation, "The Ethical Negotiator's Guide to Navigating Rough Seas," is themed around the classic TV series "Gilligan's Island" and several hypotheticals. "Millionaire industrialist Thurston Howell, III, and his wife, Lovey, along with Ginger, the Professor and Mary Ann, have filed separate lawsuits against the Skipper and Gilligan in a Florida circuit court," says Kathie Selover, executive director of the bar association, relaying the case setup.
As Mr. Orfinger explains, the plaintiffs allege that due to the Skipper’s negligence in the operation of his boat, the S.S. Minnow, they were stranded -- "except for a transistor radio with remarkably long-lasting batteries and a great antenna" -- on an uncharted desert island for many years.
The five passengers set sail that day for a three-hour tour, but up to 100 program attendees will only need two hours to earn approved Florida Bar CLE (2.0 general, 2.0 ethics hours). The program will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 in the Volusia Room, second level of the Daytona Beach International Airport at 700 Catalina Drive, Daytona Beach, Fla. 32114.
The cost is $15 for bar association members and $30 for non-member attorneys and paralegals. To reserve a spot or ask questions about the program, email Ms. Selover at
