Mediator Don Weidner Makes Front Page News

Don Weidner, a mediator with Upchurch Watson White & Max, has contributed this month's cover article to The Florida Bar Journal. Cited as Donald J. Weidner, Leaving Law Firms with Client Fees: Florida’s Path, 91-10 Fla. B. J. 9 (2017), his article was recently posted to the journal's online edition at digitaleditions.walsworthprintgroup.com/publication/?m=34365&l=1&p=&pn=#{"issue_id":452778,"page":0}.

Don, who is also dean emeritus of Florida State University College of Law, has previously explored this issue in great depth, as he is the the Reporter for the Revised Uniform Partnership Act and literally wrote the book on it. He has presented two Webinars on the topic, one for the Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar titled "Exiting Law Firms with Clients in Tow" in August and one for Upchurch Watson White & Max's CLE series titled "Leaving Law Firms and Taking Clients: Florida Emphasis and National Perspective" in March. Continuing Legal Education credit for the UWWM Webinar recording remains valid until Sept. 27, 2018.

Don has said that mediation could be an ideal way to resolve disputes over who has the right to clients' fees when attorneys representing those clients leave their firms.
