ORMOND BEACH. Fla. (February 15, 2023) – Kenton V. Sands, a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator and Qualified Arbitrator, has become a full-time neutral with Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group.
He has been representing both plaintiffs and defendants in private practice for nearly 30 years and brings that experience to bear in his new career. For the last three decades, he litigated personal injury and complex financial crime cases in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. His practice was focused on torts involving medical negligence and product liability and insurance-related claims, as well as criminal litigation involving financial offenses such as tax and securities fraud, which typically involve complex issues and protracted litigation.
“We celebrate the arrival of Kent Sands as he joins our panel of distinguished mediators,” UWWM CEO John Upchurch said. “He brings a background richly embroidered with experience in dealing with sophisticated civil litigation, and his calm, deliberative manner makes him a natural for his new practice as a neutral. We look forward to a long and rewarding relationship.”
Mr. Sands’ goal as a mediator is to help parties get to the crux of their disputes to avoid the time, expense and uncertainty of litigation. As he has done throughout his legal career, he will take the time to understand all parties’ unique circumstances and goals, and then he will tirelessly advocate for an equitable resolution.
He is a Central Florida native and returned to the area in 1994 after school and early jobs in his legal career. Mr. Sands served a multi-year stint representing clients of large corporate firms in New York City and South Florida and then became a prosecutor with the Department of Justice in Washington. He had received his bachelor’s degree (Phi Beta Kappa, with honors) from the University of Chicago and graduated from Harvard Law School. He also holds a master of laws degree in taxation from New York University.
